April 07 - January 08, Galeria Espaço Sem Nome, Olinda, Pernambuco, Brazil .

Director, curator and exhibitor of a gallery space I opened in Olinda's historic centre. Showing works by local and international artists, designers and craft makers including photography, painting, illustration, print, textile and handmade jewellery and fashion (Olinda's only stockist of the label Baltazax). The gallery also participated in various art fairs, free courses and festivals including the celebrations of Olinda's centenary.


Janeiro 07 - Janeiro 08, Baltazax, Recife  Pernambuco, Brazil.

Assistant stylist to the designer and founder of the Recife based fashion label Baltazax. Working on projects to create stories; concepts and looks for advertising in magazines and on television as well as working with musicians; djs; fashion events and local government.


April 07 - August 07, International Service and Centro Nordestino  de Medicina Popular, Olinda, Pernambuco, Brazil.

Organizing and teaching courses in art and craft, such as paper making, drawing,  knitting, sewing, patchwork, quilting and card making, in poor and underdeveloped communities. International Service works in association with Brazilian NGOs on community development projects. 

 

Aug 06 - Oct 06, The Togonon Gallery, San Francisco

An internship programme at a San Francisco gallery. Assisting the Directors on many different aspects of gallery administration. For example with marketing, installation, a website collaboration with London's Saatchi Gallery, creating a mailing list database, co-ordinating press and private views, re-defining the internship programme itself  and handling the shipping of works internationally.  I also curated two exhibitions of works by Togonon represented artists. "Inventing Memories - Ben Needham" and "Roots In The Bay, Artists in Museum Collections". 


Aug 06 - Oct 06, The George Krevsky Gallery, San Francisco

An internship programme at a San Francisco gallery, acting as assistant to the Gallery Manager. Working on inventory and archive materials; marketing and press releases and managing blue chip accounts. I also co-curated the exhibitions of a well known local artist: "Mary Robertson New Painting/New Direction" and of the Beat generation icon Lawrence Fellinghetti , "Wordplay".

 

February 06, Collect, Victoria & Albert Museum, London

International Art Fair for contemporary Craft objects by the Craft Council.  Responsibilities primarily included liaising between the Council and exhibitors; meeting and accompanying press and preview patrons; enquiries and administration and assisting set-up and take-down.

 

Oct 05 - Aug 06, Fabrica Gallery, Brighton

A six-month programme compiling a new archive of information for an existing Artists Resource. Researching organisations, galleries, associations, funding bodies and exhibiting opportunities concerned with Applied Arts and Crafts. Duties also include office admin tasks such as booking viewings, co-ordinating artist talks and advising visitors to the resource archive.


August 04 - August 06, The Mash Tun, Brighton

Managing Supervisor of an extremely busy and popular bar in Brighton's famous North Laines. Duties include banking; staff training; ordering stock and supplies; cashing up; in-house artwork and signage.


Sept 05 - Oct 05, Liberty, Oxford Circus, London

Specialist devoted to launch of prestigious 'Liberty of London' label. As part of a team created solely to work on the launch of the label my duties included visual merchandising and personal sales with high-end clients as well as liaising with the  design, marketing, wholesale and press departments for the label launch and following private events, autumn collections and media coverage.

 

Skills

  • Extensive administration experience, and proficiency with programmes such as Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Filemaker Pro, Photoshop and POS systems, as well as gallery inventory software.
  • Can type 30wpm.
  • Hold clean UK & International driving licences.
  • Excel at individual challenges as well as much experience of working collaboratively.
  • Fluent in Brazilian Portuguese and some basic Spanish.
  • Extensive sewing, dressmaking, knitting and other craft skills.
  • Experience of  clothing, accessory and jewellery design, making and marketing.
